Day 1 Awesome Husband and Family Visit

Yesterday started out with Bruce waking me up at 6 a.m. Apparently he had been up since 4 working on getting things ready to go. I have a truly amazing husband because by the time I rolled out of bed he had the suitcase packed, the car loaded, made me breakfast and started a roasted chicken in the crockpot for Grandma. I of course had to whine just a little about getting up early on my first day of vacation.

So today’s goal was to drive from Oak Harbor, WA to Richland WA. Mileage – 303

We didn’t really have a plan today except to drive and try and see some family in the Tri-Cities. So we just got in the car and started driving. We talked about stopping at some sights along the way that Bruce hadn’t seen yet but just didn’t really feel like going that far out of our way. We did however stop at our favorite fruit stand Throps in Ellensburg WA. We can’t possible leave of course with out a five pound bag of local Rainer Cherries, few peaches and vanilla/orange cream soda. I’ll be luck if Bruce doesn’t eat the whole bag of cherries by Sunday.

We pulled into Richland by 1 and headed to our hotel to check in. We stayed at a great hotel called Holiday Inn and Suites that was right behind the Columbia Center Mall. You can just make out the Columbia River out our hotel room. It’s always strang coming back to the place I spent the first 14 years of my life. Where there use to be sagebrush and dirt is a whole new section of business and houses. This place just keeps on growing and changing. It true for anywhere you just don’t notice it till you have been gone awhile.

We took a brief rest and headed out to visit. First stop was to take Jackie an iced coffee at Gesa Stadium where she works. I know she appreciated it. I got a hug for the delivery. For sure a fair trade! Then it was off to Charlie and Lisa’s to visit. We got more then we planned on because several of the grandkids were there as well as one of the kids. Before you know it 3 hours had passed and we still wanted to visit my Uncle Russ. So it was a mad dash for a quick visit before we headed back to the hotel.

It was a great day but we are ready to head down the road toward our next adventure but not before a good nights sleep.
